Signs Your Ductwork Needs to be Repaired or Replaced

Posted on by Freds_Heating

Your home’s ducts are mostly invisible and sometimes get overlooked, but they still require the same amount of care, as the rest of your home. The ducts are the passageways that move air throughout your home. They draw air out of rooms and send it through a temperature regulator and filter, then move it back into the rooms with the air quality set to the user’s specifications. The ducts are extremely important and you should know what signs to look for that might indicate your ducts need for repair or replacement. Here are some signs to look for: 1. Mold Mold is a potential health hazard to anyone who inhales it. When the humidity is relatively high, mold can develop in your ducts. It can usually be cleaned from metal ducts, but not from plastic ones.   2. Tears or Cracking If you see any tears or cracks, you will be losing money and air quality over time & should seek an evaluation.   3. Extreme Age Asbestos is an issue if your home is more than fifty years old, and you will definitely want to replace your ducts.   4. Inconsistent Household Temperature If you notice your home’s temperature is uneven, such as any cold spots, their may be a problem with how much air your ducts can carry. 5. Improper Installation Checking your exposed ducts for uneven alignment and proper sealing is important. If you notice any issues with these it is worth calling a professional to double check.   6. Debris in the System If you have any excess dirt around registers or your filter needs to be replaced more often than usual, there may be a breach in your ducts and it should be repaired. Use these tips & signs to … Continue reading
